A healthy mouth is an important part of your overall well-being; gums and teeth can indicate disease long before you're aware that anything is wrong. If you have temperature-sensitive teeth, try a different toothpaste. Ask your dentist before switching to a toothpaste marketed for sensitive teeth. Sometimes there is an underlying problem causing the sensitivity such as an exposed root that should be treated immediately.

Receding gum lines is known cause a host of illnesses. Brushing and flossing is important to your gum health. Everyone should floss and brush their teeth in the morning and at bedtime as well as between meals to help prevent gum disease. Use good brushing and flossing techniques to help prevent future illness.

If you are only going to brush twice a day, do it when you are first getting up and when you finally go to bed. Early morning brushing gets rid of morning breath and deals with anything that settled in during your sleep. Brushing at bedtime helps your plaque-fighting saliva out, since it is going to dry up overnight.

If you think, you may have a broken jaw, do not try to handle this kind of issue yourself. The jaw will not fix itself. Take a cold compress and gently apply to the area so that swelling is reduced. Then go to the emergency room or visit your dentist immediately.

Check your toothbrush for how hard the bristles are. You want something that is soft or even medium grade. Hard bristles can actually wear down your enamel over time. You want something that can remove debris and clean the surfaces of your teeth, but not actually do damage to them.

If you feel that you aren't getting ready of all plaque, use a special tablet. Follow the directions on the product. Any problem areas will become stained with your mouthwash. However, before you use these types of products, make sure you have enough time for brushing away these stains. Do not use them if you must go to work quickly.

Teeth and gums say a lot about a person's health. Of course you want to have the best looking set of teeth possible but it's important to go beyond that and understand the implications of oral problems and what you can do about them. Keep your smile bright and healthy for a long time to come!
